Break out your city-warping Swobo Novak City Bike for urban journeys, where you will be able to see the world around you in amazing clarity. With an upright riding position , the Swobo Novak enables you with power to see goings on usually beyond your usual range of vision, at the same time the springy steel frame smoothes crappy downtown roads. To protect you from trouser-hungry chains , Swobo hooked the Novak up with a practical and stylish chainguard—and for the royal-commuter treatment, the Novack comes complete with fenders, a cargo rack, and a bottle-opener-equipped saddle for apres -voyage beverages.
Swobo’s bicycle product manager Sky Yaeger says of the Novak ” I wanted a modern re-designing of the classic Raleigh three-speed “. In particular aimed for, Swobo the draw of that bike, which remained unchanged for nearly 3 decades after World War II.
Representing the company ethos , Swobo’s creation cannot simply be desribed as a copy but an update with distinct DNA. The 700c-wheeled Swobo Novak is made on a steel frame comparable to that of the fixed-gear Swobo Sanchez, with a better urban suited geometry inspired by many of the bikes Yaeger created throughout her twenty -year professional stint as Bianchi USA’s product manager.
The classic-look swept-back cruiser handlebar of the old Raliegh 3 speed has been modernised with a creative riser, and an ultra -quiet SRAM I-Motion three-speed internally geared hub replaces the Raleigh’s Sturmey Archer. Down-to-earth nods include full fender and rear-rack eyelets, an antitheft front-hub skewer and a rear light incorporated into the seat post.
The Swobo Novak’s handling is a quantum leap in front of those stately cruisers of years gone by . The handling isn’t nervous but it is quick; if you want something more restrained, go with Swobo’s Dixon.
However the qualities I love in the Novak are the simplicity and zero-maintenance of the SRAM I-Motion 3-speed hub, together with the smooth ride of classic steel frames, combine them and Swobo Novak is the happy result. The 700C wheel size delivers a zippy ride with an urban frame and fork configuration
The internal 3 speed gear hub is really all you need for around-town use. Although the I-Motion features a high leap from second to third, it makes your trips more enjoyable. Most of the time you can travel along gently in second 2nd gear but use the “overdrive” gear if you are behind schedule. Just as styles keep coming back, so has the tried and tested format of the three-speed. With gas prices steadily increasing , it’s like the ’70s all over again. You probably don’t want out dated fashions back, but as the Novak illustrates, a few items from the past can be updated quite nicely. However quite unlike the 1970’s we have greater environmental concerns as there is increasing concern regarding environmental polution caused by exhaust emissions , especially in the inner city areas and the effect these exhaust gases are having on the standard of air quality.
This is having a detrimental affect on the health of the inner city population with a rise in reported chest and Asthma related conditions. Urban biking thus is a practice that can be taken up by lots of people not only as a practical and ecomonic means of urban transport but also as a personal contribution to the reduction of global warming
