We are taught from birth that washing our face is something that we need to do every day. If you are like most of your friends, you don’t really care about washing your face every day–in fact, doing so feels like a chore! Even after spending years in puberty and battling against regular acne breakouts, washing your face is more of a hassle, especially when all you want to do is go to sleep! Here’s the truth: to keep bacteria and other things from clogging your pores, you need to keep your face clean. Do you really want to be the only person in the office with the acne problem of a teenager? Read on to learn a few tricks to help you keep your face clean and keep the acne away! Also, one thing that has really improved my acne condition is diet. Check out Shakeology, highly recommended.
Finding the right cleanser is your first line of defense against acne. It should go without saying that your cleanser should not have an oily base, but that is not the only thing you need to look at when you shop for your cleanser. Salicylic acid is one. Salicylic acid is often found in cleansers that are harder on the skin and meant for people who suffer from severe acne. In a “regular” cleanser though, the strength of the salicylic acid is just enough to zap the bacteria and clean out your pores. As you age your skin will get thinner and more sensitive so you might eventually need to use salicylic acid only for the occasional spot treatment.
Try not to let your hands touch your face. How often are you aware of the time your hands spend touching your face? The contact between our faces and our hands is partly to blame for our acne problems. Take a minute to think about this. Every time you touch something and then touch your face you are transporting some of that item into your facial pores. If you make a habit of resting your face on your hands then the oil that is on your hands is going straight into the pores on your face. This is partly what makes it so easy for you to catch the flu: you pick up something that has been touched by someone who is sick and then later brush something off of your face and transfer the germs right onto your face where they have easy access to your nose, eyes, mouth, ears and pores: all places to infect with the flu! This is why you should try not touch your face with your hands.
If you find that you can’t help but touch your face, make sure that your hands are always clean! Washing your hands often can help combat acne.
Relax! Believe it or not, for many people, stress levels directly impact the size and scope of an acne breakout. Lowering your stress requires you to make some time to calm down every day. It is a good idea to learn how to calm yourself down when you feel your stress levels get out of control. If your daily life is filled with high levels of stress you should consider changing your lifestyle. Finding time to calm down and decompress is not just good for your mind, it is good for your skin! Keeping your hands to yourself and making sure to keep your face clean are two of the most basic and most reliable ways to cure an acne breakout. Once in a while the basic cleanser is not enough and you need to use a product that is a little bit harsher. You should be happy to know that while acne does not discriminate against age, neither do acne fighting agents-you should be able to find something to cure your breakout no matter what your number is.
